Oseki Mochi

Topped with a neat layer of lightly sweetened tsubu-an (coarse sweet red bean paste) over soft mochi, the shop's signature Oseki Mochi pairs the rich flavor of azuki beans with a tender, chewy texture in every bite. The bean paste is refined and never cloying, well balanced by a subtle touch of saltiness. Modestly sized, these simple treats are easy to enjoy one after another.

Boxed selections at the counter typically pair the standard white mochi with kusamochi infused with the fragrant, herbal aroma of Japanese mugwort (yomogi). Available in convenient assortments such as 4 or 6 pieces, they let you contrast the clean simplicity of the plain mochi with the earthy character of the mugwort variety. On some days, gently sweet ohagi also appear in the display, and visitors often pick them up alongside the signature rice cakes.

Located near the gates of Jonangu Shrine and opening at 8:30 in the morning, the shop makes a convenient stop while paying a shrine visit or driving through the area.
